Students studying at both DO and MD medical schools complete four years of medical education. After medical school, they obtain additional education through internships, residencies, and fellowships. They can study and choose any specialty in medicine, such as family medicine, surgery, obstetrics. The difference lies in the additional training in the musculoskeletal system as well as Osteopathic Manipulation that DOs receive while in medical school and beyond. Dr. Higginbotham has focused on Osteopathic Manipulation Medicine in his practice because of his strong belief that helping the physical body stay balanced, while keeping in mind the patient’s emotional and spiritual health, he offers patients a “whole person” approach to wellness.
